I’ve got em
See those gnarly spots? those are where my bearings go. GAAAARR they are chewed up from the last time my wheels got loose because my last mechanic didn’t propely set the preload. Then I did it and it got loos again because the spindle is janked. I did it again tonight, we’ll see how long it sits.
Will be trying retaining compound if it doesn’t, anyone have experience with it?

That’s not good. I’m very surprised how well everything in my running gear has held up in my ownership, since AFAIK everything is original... I’ve done far too many dirt to asphalt, burnout to instant traction take offs. Probably pressing my luck. The only part of my driveline that’s broken is my front driveshaft, and that may or may have not been due to me jumping it and landing on the transmission. How the trans survived that, I don’t know, but I shit you not it knocked itself from drive to reverse on impact. 3.5 years later, and it’s still
kicking
draining the life out of what power is there.

And that’s why you shouldn’t gotten a land ROVER, not a land CRUISER. Because, duh, reliabilLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
Sorry. That sucks man. Are the retaining/locking rings accounted for? Hopefully it doesn’t keep happening or you will be looking at new spindles.

I think I am already in for a new spindle. They aren’t too bad ($100) but its not what I want to spend money on. This shop I thought I could trust did my bearings last, but I have already had to redo a lot of their work do I guess this doesn’t shock me too much. So hard to find decent mechanics, not enough time or tools to do it all myself.

I had a front axle replaced on my Isuzu, 6 months later I was like what’s that rattling sound? Turns out they didn’t thighten the outer piece of the manual locking hub, and it was rattling around. I was able to fix it in about 10 minutes with a 6 mm alen wrench.

The shop I had do a lot of work last year did a shitty job of many things that I am now discovering. Such as they didn’t preload the bearings right and so they started to spin, then wobble. When they started to rock and wobble they started etching out my spindle, I replaced the bearings and put it back together with the right preload but the problem came back a few weeks later, I did it again this last weekend but I know it wont hold based on how noisy to drive it still is. new rule #trust no one.
